RSS

Having just learnt about the RSS Feeds, yes they are a very good tool in respect that information you require or are interested in comes to you, however there is a constant flow pouring in which has to be read and sifted through.

In a week I believe I have received about 400 entries into my web address, which unless you are constantly running through them, may not be looked at.

However, it will certainly keep you up-dated with the most recent information and ideas, and should you be searching for particular subjects these will be at your fingers-tips.

This would be very helpful to the Library in keeping abreast of new innovations and systems.

  1. Oh yes, talk about information overload! wonder if a filter can be applied to this?

  2. Yes that's what I thought a whole stack of feeds will come through. A filter would be a great idea.

  3. I've subscribed to the PLO noticeboard updates to be sent to my work inbox, so much easier than logging in a few times a day and I can just forward the email to relevant staff, thanks web 2.0 training for saving me time!

  4. It can be information overload, but you don't have to go searching for it.

  5. It is a bit scary when you first log onto your reader and see all the unread in bold by each feed but I have found the 'mark all as read' a quick way of changing that... I added a feed for the local UK newspaper where my parents live to keep up to date with their side of things... just a suggestion?

  6. This is the problem once you sign up for the RSS feeds, there is the convience of them dropping straight into the one place, google reader, but finding time to go through them is another matter.

  7. 400 feeds in a week seems quite a lot. I don't know how many feeds you subscribed to but it really seems it might not be possible to subscribe to more than a small number of feeds unless you have more time than the average working person. Given all the email we get and discussion lists that may already be subscribed and its sounding rather daunting.

  8. I really need to filter my feeds. In fact, I think I may have "killed" some of my subscriptions.
